West Pasco has long served as a bedroom community for Pinellas and Hillsborough counties.  The traffic snarls and road congestion is a direct result of the county’s failure to attract good paying jobs to Pasco County.  Unfortunately, recent development in the county is simply moving the problem further east.

It makes no sense to be spending our efforts encouraging residential growth in central and eastern parts of the county without making an extra effort to attract the jobs that would allow new residents to both live and work in Pasco County.

West Pasco in particular is well suited for a complete redevelopment with an eye toward attracting businesses and jobs.  The county should be trying to attract non-retail businesses that could take advantage of the empty buildings up and down US 19.
